What is a Domain Name?
A Domain Name is simply your Identity on the Internet and is the way your Web Site is located and found and serves as your E-Mail address.
Who owns a Domain Name?
The person who registers the Domain name with InterNic owns the Domain name. When you purchase the name from you become the official owner.
How much does a Domain Name cost?
Each Domain name has a different price tag. As with most anything on the Market, the higher the demand the more costlier the item. Prices for already registered domain vary from a
couple of hundred US-dollar up to...? (there are .com names up to $ 1.600.000on the Internet!!) Once you purchase the Domain from us you will be charged $35.00 each year for
registration with InterNic. This is a standard procedure that all people who register a Domain must follow.
How many Domain names can I have?
You can have as many Domain names as you want provided that you can pay for them and that you intend to have web-sites for them.
What is the Value of a Domain name?
It is always a good idea to invest in a good Internet Domain. The good names will be taken soon and thus occupied forever. That's why you should act quickly. To save a couple of
bucks now might be a bad investment in the long run. In contrast to ordinary addresses Internet addresses are not bound geographically, they are easily accessible worldwide. A
good domain name is worth a lot, if the user can easily remember it, find it by intuition and fitting to the product or service of the web site.
Why a Domain name?
I think the question is "why not own a Domain name?" Domain names are low-cost and practical way to
advertise your website. They are simple to remember. Plus, you OWN the rights to your Domain name! The best way to draw customers to your web-site is with a
Domain name. Domain names can tell a customer the name of your business or of the products you are selling. Your Domain name is your company's "online Internet address."
What does .com, .org, .edu, .net, .gov really mean?
.com stand for "commercial","commerce", or "community." Businesses small and large can use a .com address along with anyone who has a Personal website.
.org stands for "organization." Any organization that has a web-site such as Puppeteers of America or the Pediatric AIDS Foundation have sites with .org.
.edu
is saved specifically for Educational Institutes such as Public or Private Schools, Colleges or Universities. You must recieve special permission from InterNic before you can register a .edu.
.net
stands for "Network." While most Internet Service Providers (ISP) choose to use the .net, anyone can incorporate .net with their web-site.
.gov
is strictly reserved for the United States Government. Government owned sites such as the US Mint and the United States White House are the only sites eligable for the .gov prefix.
What About Domain names that are Registered Trademarks?
Those organizations registering Domains are not to be expected to check your name for trademark violations.
Therefore register only the names that no one else is entitled to. You risk the loss of your domain. If you have any doubt about the name you want to register, contact the Patent
Bureau. For example, we all know that Nike® is a company well-known for making quality athletic and everyday shoes. You would not want to register Nike.com because it is a
Trademark of Nike®. If Nike® were to setup a web-site and could not use their legal trademarked name they could sue the registrant because he/she does not own the rights to it.
Domainpros.com has already registered our Domain names for you. All of our Domain names are legal and are registered in our name so you don't have to worry about this. You
can purchase a Domain from us and we will make you the legal registrant.
OK, I have a Domain name. Can I have it moved to a different server?
Yes. Domainpros.com will register your purchased Domain in your name. The server
provider you hire to host your web-site will be responsible for pointing your Domain to their server. This process should not take more than 48 hours depending on which Server you choose to have host your site.
How long does it take register/move a Domain?
Registration normally takes about 24 hours depending on the kind of the domain (.com .net
.org) and how busy our registration service is. To move a Domain can take up to two weeks, depending on which service provider you choose.
How long does it take before the whole World can see my Domain?
After the Domain is registered and installed, it can take up to to weeks before everybody can
see your Domain. A server of an internet provider must first acknowledge the new domain, before any of its users can have access to it. Most servers updated their catalog once a day.
It may seem like a lot of waiting- but believe me, its worth it!
I have more questions about Domains. Who do I talk to?
We understand that you may have other questions regarding Domains. We would be happy to answer your questions! Please email them to neli@gte.net.
What trademark issues pertain to domain names?
We do not give advice on specific trademark questions. If a domain name is available, there is
very little to stop somebody from registering it. However it is possible that you may violate a registered trademark if you attempt to use it. Whether or not this is the case depends on how
generic the domain name is and how the courts apply the existing trademark law. It would be difficult for any company to sue over a domain name that uses a word from the dictionary,
unless it is being used in such a way that it could cause confusion with an existing trademark. The global nature of the Internet makes the issue even more difficult. For example there is
Swedish toy manufacurer call Brio and there is also an Italian softdrink producer called Brio. Who has the rights to brio.com? Brio Technology in Palo Alto, California because they got there first.
